We are an arts-based, hands-on and creative high school.

Because of industrial educational systems, people are being taught out of their creative capacities. Our Mission is to inspire students, their families and our community into sensitive practices that allows us to reimagine the future together – developing academic skills but also self-expression, communication, hands-on creativity, respect for diversity, critical thinking and emotional intelligence.

Creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.

Why choose us

Creative education

Discussing art theories and concepts is awesome, but creative careers also demand hands-on skills. This is why we merge regular courses with Art + Design practices in painting, drawing, graphic design, fashion design, media arts, portfolio preparation and other elective options from our art studio.

Our Vision

The future will not be for those who only memorize and take notes – but for those who make the rules, break the patterns and trust their feelings. We want to be a school that allows students to live in a respectful, artistic and creative environment where they are not afraid to be themselves, to express their thoughts and to master their talents.

Advantages

Several research studies agree that a school enviroment may be frustrating and even threatening for many students. This is not the kind of experience we want for our learning community. Instead, we think of arts, school, future, dialogue, poetry, innovation, dreams, sensitivity, laughter and feelings as part of the same exciting thing, life.

Our Program

Art-Culture-Society-Education

Every student is encouraged to reach their full academic potential, be able to develop critical thinking skills, take risks, become independent and improve in self-esteem.

  • Grade 9

Grade 9 students enrol in core subjects: English 9, Math 9, Science 9, Physical and Health Education 9, Social Studies 9, Career Education 9 and two elective courses. In these classes, they are given complex tasks to develop critical and analytical abilities and acquire additional skills to support the students’ creative growth.
  • BC Dogwood Diploma (Grade 10, 11 & 12)

The BC Graduation Program sets the requirements to exit the K-12 education system with a BC Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) and ensures that students are graduating from secondary school as educated citizens, with the knowledge, competencies, and skills they will need to transition successfully into post-secondary education, training, or the workforce. Starting Grade 10, students start earning credits towards their graduation, which transforms them into the educated citizen. It puts equal emphasis on intellectual development, human, social and career development. The learning standards are settled that students know the big ideas, concepts and successfully demonstrate them into area of learning.
